Stephan Ehrenhofer is an artist based in Berlin, who is taking a minimalist contemporary approach to textiles and painting.
Beyond a continuously strong practice in painting, he is putting his main focus on the concrete and systematic in art. Making use of textiles and paper as well as metal and wood, Stephan Ehrenhofer is thoroughly exploring the intrinsic qualities of many different types of media thereby reflecting upon a minimalist contemporary approach to non-objective art.
Stephan Ehrenhofer was born in Zürich in 1964 and is currently based in Berlin and Southern Burgenland in Austria.
From 1985 to 1989 he studied Fine Arts at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna, during the final years of the tapestry and weaving masterclass. These formative studies continue to influence the way the artist accesses the traditions of painting and weaving, taking innovative forays into the three dimensional world of plastic objects up to the scale of installations.
