Elfyn Lewis has long drawn inspiration from bands such as Datblygu, often incorporating song lyrics and titles into his paintings. For him, music and art go hand in hand. His love of place is a clear strand throughout his work which are, as he describes, ‘layered time after time until the upper layer explodes and transforms from its volcanic creation into a vivid landscape’.

Born in Porthmadog, North Wales, and now based in Cardiff, Lewis’ paintings are included in numerous public and private collections. He was awarded the Gold Medal for Fine Art at the National Eisteddfod of Wales in 2009 and was later named Welsh Artist of the Year in 2010.
