Louisa Boyd’s work centres around the persistent human desire to belong within the natural world. She considers environment and how we navigate place. Boyd’s sculptural works rely on sacred geometry for their structure, using the elements of mathematics that underpin the fabric of the world we exist within.

Elements Arranged is inspired by the connection Plato made between the Platonic solids and the elements of nature. The work uses symbols of the elements to describe our connection to the natural, physical world. Map-like abstract imagery helps to suggest the idea of navigation to its audience. By layering abstract, drawn imagery made with traditional drawing tools and printmaking processes, with more abstract painterly marks, the outcomes are a visual fusion of historic and contemporary ideas.
