Andrew Mackenzie :: Work on Paper

Leith School of Art Exhibition

Opening on Friday 25 April from 5 - 7pm

We are delighted to announce the opening of 'Work on Paper', an exhibition of works by Andrew Mackenzie at Leith School of Art, presented in collaboration with &Gallery.

As the title suggests, the exhibition is focused on works on paper; bringing together a new large-scale drawing in soft pastel and gouache, with lithography, etching, oil on paper, watercolour and charcoal drawing.

Working on paper can be exploratory, or it can become a finished piece. This exhibition aims to reflect this and to be relevant to some of the processes students at LSA experience.

Edinburgh Printmakers Lithographs release

At the end of last month Andrew released two new lithographs, developed with Edinburgh Printmakers. The prints, Woodland Structure 1 and Woodland Structure 2, are named after a large-scale sculpture Andrew made in 2021 at Marchmont House in the Scottish Borders. The sculpture makes physical the distilled, modernist line drawings which often feature in his drawings and paintings, passing through and between trees.

The new lithographs sprang from a 2024 series of drawings and paintings based on revisiting the sculpture and the surrounding woodland at Marchmont, but simplifying and transforming them further.

In addition to two full editions, a selection of colour trial proofs are also available to purchase, which emerged from the experimental and collaborative process of producing these prints.

Further details about the release can be found on the Edinburgh Printmakers website.
