close call, acrylic on canvas, 100 x 100 cm

Joan Doerr first exhibited with the gallery in 2021 and is a Scottish based artist working from her studio in Edinburgh. Inspired by shapes, textures and colours observed in the everyday, her work is made up of multiple layers of different opacities of acrylic which are applied and removed. We are looking forward to hosting Joan’s second solo exhibition in November.

untitled (painting with angle and hole), acrylic on panel, 40 x 30 cm

Molly Thomson is originally from Edinburgh and is now based in Norfolk. She recently joined the gallery last year and her work concerns the performance of the painting as an object, generally using the conventional painting panel as a springboard for action and a vehicle for thought. She is interested in conditions that confine, resist and limit, and in what happens when those given conditions are subject to question and boundaries are breached. In June we will be hosting Molly’s debut exhibition with the gallery.

Mist and Sound, mixed media on hand cut Lucite, 48.3 x 12 x 7.6 cm

Michelle Benoit is based in Rhode Island and exhibited with the gallery for the first time last year as part of a group exhibition, Line, Colour and Form. Her work is made of wood and several layers of a translucent lucite that are painted and assembled over each other. This process creates an internal glowing effect in the work and causes the reflected light of each layer to appear in a new way every time you look at it. The work becomes a tangible remembering of isolated moments in time, and a way of visually capturing constant, fluid layers of experience through colour and light.

untitled, mixed media; household paint, varnish, wax and found materials on board, 30 x 30 cm

JFK Turner joined the gallery in 2018 and is based down in East Sussex. His work is concerned with two fundamental elements, images and objects. He collects and records the objects from the modern world to construct his images. His paintings share similar characteristics to a sculpture where areas of the construction are visible.
