  • Joy ARden edinburgh artist
Night Shapes, Acrylic on Fabriano board, 27.5 x 34.5 cm

Joy Arden has long been fascinated by urban wastelands, demolished buildings, weathered surfaces, archaeological excavations and construction sites.  A sense of place, the passage of time as well as the traces left by human activity in the environment form a focus for the work. The studio paintings are begun with the memory of the experience of the place or objects. They are a free interpretation of the subject, where colours or shapes are ‘discovered’ or revealed during a process of applying  paint and scraping back, until there is a tension and a sense of something seen or experienced.

    HalcyonAcrylic on cotton, 115 x 100 cm

Jana Emburey’smeditative micro/macrocosms explore the ideas of interconnectivity, oneness and universal natural dynamics. Using a rich visual vocabulary, from complex, intricate compositions to fluid soak-stain abstract topographies, she considers humanity’s place in the cosmos, time and space. Emburey approaches the work mindfully, as an expression of a state of consciousness, with the experience of the process, alternating between single point focus and an expansive state of flow, inextricably linked with the outcome.

  • Emily Moore artwork edinburgh
Solstice 2, acrylic, gesso and graphite on panel, 30 x 30 cm
Edinburgh based artist Emily Moore creates arresting landscape paintings using an amalgamation of personal source images – usually photographs taken to record her own travels and experiences. Each body of work is a documentation of those experiences, the creative process allowing Moore to recall each place and combine them to create new, anonymous landscapes.

    Breakaway 2, acrylic on canvas, 45 x 60 cm
Karine Léger creates delicately layered acrylic paintings, exploring collage and composition. Karine’s approach first involves the need to deconstruct in order to lay the foundations for an introspective reconstruction. From paper or digital cut-outs, her compositions are born out of a collaging process. Colours, textures and shapes are meticulously selected to be arranged and rearranged, assembled and reassembled, in a quest for the right balance. Similar but independent forms come together, at times nearly touching, other times precariously balancing on one another and, on occasion, merging.
