emily moore :: new experimental works now available
In the run up to her second solo exhibition, we are pleased to share a new body of experimental works from gallery artist Emily Moore.

We caught up with Emily to hear what she's been up to since her last exhibition.

“I had a break from the studio last year. I didn’t intend for it to be as long but after a busy year prior, working on my solo show and other commissions, it was good to have some time away. This year has been a productive one, developmentally. I’ve enjoyed working across a series of smaller works, experimenting with halftone imagery. The process is still very similar: layering abstract, painterly layers with images taken from my own photographs although I’ve converted a selection of photographs into halftone dots. My time spent screenprinting whilst at Edinburgh College of Art was hugely influential to my painting practice and is something I frequently return to.”

After four different work spaces over six years at WASPS' Albion Road Studios, Emily will be making the move to WASPS’ Patriothall studios next month.

“I feel really lucky to have been offered a space a Patriothall. Albion Road has been a great place to work but, with the impending closure of Albion Road as a WASPS space, the move has come at the perfect time. It’ll be great having a fresh studio to start making work for my upcoming solo show next year.”

Additional news:

Emily was one of three gallery artists shortlisted for the first Scottish Landscape Awards. The exhibition will be held at the City Art Centre in Edinburgh where it will occupy two floors and run from 4 November 2023 to 3 March 2024.
My bones follow your tracks, acrylic, gesso and graphite on birch panel, 80 x 60 cm

“The mountain image is taken from one of many photographs I took whilst visiting Les Deux Alpes, a high-altitude resort town in the French Alps. The mountain peaks are a constant dominating presence, towering over the resort. ‘My bones follow your tracks’ was part of a new body of work I began at the beginning of the year. The painting is built up in several layers which allowed me to experiment with various new painting techniques whilst also attempting to evoke the atmospheric depth of the mountains.”

Emily currently has a selection of paintings on display at the Kimpton Charlotte Square Hotel, alongside gallery artist Anna Somerville. Emily’s work can be viewed in the rear conservatory area and will be on show until 7 November 2023.
