Artist Focus - Week 2

Booth studied at Wimbledon School of Art, graduation in Fine Art Painting in 1989.
In 2019 she received a Pollock Krasner Award from New York for her painting and also 1 of the 12 International Abstract Painting Awards from the Adolph and Esther Gottlieb Foundation in USA.
Booth’s works explore both an impulsive and repetitive way of mark making that is both gestural and meditative. Straight and dynamic lines often appear alongside the more gossamer transient dots in the paintings. 

Hanna ten Doornkaat studied BA (sculpture) at Kingston University and MA (sculpture) at Wimbledon School of Art (UAL). 
Ten Doornkaat’s main medium is the graphite pencil and the building up of layers upon layers of lines. No ‘drawing on board’ is seen as a solitary work or object but always as part of a conversation in space. For her drawing goes beyond the simple depiction of an object, a mark made on paper, it is as much about the process as it is about a metaphysical expression of an idea.

Emily Moore graduated with a first class degree from Edinburgh College of Art in 2013. In 2012 she was awarded the Royal Scottish Academy Keith Prize and during her final year was selected for the Saatchi New Sensations Longlist.
Moore is drawn to the patterns and forms of mountainous environments and the contrasting, geometric shapes and lines of the man made structures which inhabit them. Her paintings explore the tension between these two conflicting themes, looking to strike a balance within the final composition.

Lorraine Robson studied Sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art.
Robson makes beautiful, contemplative, hand-built ceramics paying homage to ancient skills while embracing contemporary influences. She creates intuitively, a fusion of ideas, drawing on a kaleidoscope of images and observations to make work with unique identity balanced between manufactured, machine made and organic references.
