Joan Doerr is a Scottish abstract painter who works through an instinctive process that combines painting and drawing. While her initial inspiration often comes from the shapes, textures, and colours of everyday life, her works evolve primarily through an intuitive, layered approach. Working predominantly with acrylics, she constructs her work in several layers, often applying and then removing paint to reach the desired finish. The traces of this process remain visible in the finished paintings, where earlier layers subtly surface beneath the final composition.
Based in Edinburgh’s West End, Doerr works from her home studio. Her work has been exhibited widely across the UK, including multiple appearances at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London.
