Chris is interested in the beauty of everyday utilitarian objects and the nuances and patination of imperfection and natural sporadic processes. Technical knowledge and a disciplined work ethic underpin the production of composite works (koraju) that are made by off-setting oil based inks using hand rollers, relief printing using a vintage press and hand cut paper stencils (kappazuri).
Works are largely abstracted representations of skies, landscapes and structures. Processes are intuitive and spontaneous. Composite prints are simultaneously: refined and organic, modular and variable, unique and relatable.
