Light touches both the world of natural philosophy and science. Working in glass Hildegard Pax creates framed wall sculptures which are painted with light, using colour and shapes in layered compositions. The coloured glass incorporated in her work is dichroic, from the Greek word 'dikhroos' meaning having two colours, and it reflects one colour, whilst transmitting it's complementary - so for example a red glass transmits red and reflects turquoise. The work is brought to life by its interaction with light. Pax invites the viewer to look closer to understand where the colour is coming from and how light can change the visual appearance of each piece.
Reflected and transmitted colours meet and intermingle, creating ethereal colour fields within the artwork.
