Dutch based painter Anke Roder lives and works near Groningen, in Holland.

The landscape paired back to an austere simplicity, has inspired her with two rich seams to mine – seascapes and plants. Her encaustic seascapes, sensuous satin slabs anchored along a welded horizon, ooze light. The ancient beeswax and pigment technique, applied in molten layers, conveys a contained elemental energy, loading the northern colours within a saturated interior. Rendering down sea and sky to a semi-abstract geometry, Roder’s work anchors in observation, convinces, rewards and delights the patient eye. Seasons, light and weather are all here, distilled through a northern romantic sensibility into beautiful paintings, crafted from simple materials transformed.

David Mankin’s abstract paintings not only draw inspiration from the dramatic Cornish coastline; the wild, empty moors; the big skies; but also the raw, physical elements of the landscape including the rocky outcrops; beach boulders; storm debris; winding farm tracks; surging seas and the ancient fields bordered with stone hedges. He enjoys getting out into the landscape and the elements that shape it – wind, sea, rain and man-made. These are the experiences that manifest themselves in his paintings.

Eric Cruikshank takes landscape as an initial starting point within his practice. His drawings and paintings are not about literal presentation; instead, the focus is on the emotive qualities of place. Using an objective palette tied to the Scottish landscape, colour acts as a vehicle to reveal the picture planes underlying points of reference. Light From a Shared Space will be Eric’s debut show with the gallery this coming August.

Frances Priest is a pattern obsessive and lover of colour, making work that explores cultural histories and narratives associated with ornamental motifs and patterns.

Trained in ceramics at Edinburgh College of Art, over the past 20 years she has developed a studio ceramic practice with work acquired by private collectors internationally and UK public collections including, The National Museum of Scotland, The Fitzwilliam Museum, and The Victoria & Albert Museum.

Ivan De Menis' work is born from gradual layers of tone-on-tone colour and overlapping glazes that evoke Venetian tonal painting and testify to Ivan’s strong bond with his Italian origins. The artworks recall the relationship with time, where the search for a particular amalgamation of colours, along with the volume and sculptural finish, becomes the foundation of the work.

An equation of time, colour and volume are clearly visible in the finished works. The contrast of the smooth, luminous surface next to the painterly, canvas sides demonstrating the complexity of the work and the relationship between matter and sculpture.
