David Quinn: Kyoto

4 - 29 July 2026

Join us for the opening on Saturday 4th July from 2-4pm.

Known for his intimate abstract paintings, Quinn creates carefully layered works inspired by book design, musical notation, signwriting, and the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi—the acceptance of transience and imperfection. Built through repeated patterns of lines, dots and grids, his paintings possess a quiet rhythm and meditative quality, with muted colours and worn edges that evoke the passage of time.

Drawing on the artist's recent time in Japan, Kyoto brings together a new body of work that reflects Quinn's instinctive approach to painting, where subtle mark-making and layered surfaces create visual haikus that reward close looking.
